President Declares Disaster for Florida

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Florida and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding from April 28 to May 6, 2014.

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its federal partners continue to monitor and work closely with states potentially affected by Tropical Storm Debby, including Florida where the state is currently being affected by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding. Today, President Barack Obama spoke with Florida Governor Rick Scott to express his condolences for the loss of life as well as the extensive damage to homes in Florida as a result of the storm. The President reiterated that the administration – through FEMA – would remain in close contact with the state as they continue to respond to this event, and asked Governor Scott to continue to identify any additional support the administration could provide.
